The 37th Annual Telluride Film Festival

The 37th Annual Telluride Film Festival is scheduled to take place Labor Day weekend – September 3 – 6, 2010. This critically acclaimed event has seen the likes of Nicholas Cage, Laura Linney, Helen Mirren, Viggo Mortensen, and many easily recognizable names in the film industry.  Featuring over 30 different films in 9 different venues, there will be approximately 15 shorts and 20 feature films showcased from a variety of talents worldwide.

The Telluride Film Festival earns its prestige by the very fact that many Oscar-winning films and Oscar-winning actors were showcased here before making it big through major motion pictures. Forrest Whitaker, Diablo Cody, and Daniel Day-Lewis all were featured in films in Telluride that led them down the path to their Academy Award winning successes.

There are no official “prizes” for the entries at Telluride Film Festival, but just being chosen to showcase your film is an honor for cinematographers in and of itself! Popular films that receive a good reception will be showcased several times throughout the festival, so as to give the “best of the best” time to shine repetitively.

And of course, a huge draw to the Telluride Film Festival is the town of Telluride itself. A perfect, inspirational place for this fantastic convergence of artistic talent, Telluride was hailed by Kyle MacMillian of the Omaha World-Herald as, “Cinema Paradiso at 9,000 feet! That’s not a bad way to sum up the Telluride Film Festival, four days of movie-going heaven tucked away majestically in the high country of the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado. Screened are films from all over the world-new and old, talkies and silents, color and- black-and-white, with the only criterion being quality.”

So book your room and make the trip to Telluride in September, for world class cinematography in a world class setting!
