Ski and Snowboard School

Telluride's Children Ski and Snowboard School

Children's Ski and Snowboard School offers group children's lessons at a great price.  A lesson includes instruction, lift ticket and lunch for your child.  Children's lessons begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m.  Children are grouped by age and ability.  Younger children have smaller class sizes than the older children do.  Class size varies with the season, with classes during holidays being larger than during slower times.

One of the best benefits of a children's group lesson is that your child can make new friends from other parts of the world.  Most children experience a feeling of belonging to a team while participating in group lessons.  Instructors focus on safety, fun and adventure.  Siblings or friends who ask to ski together can but will be placed at the lower skiers' level.

Please go to our "high altitude info" tab under "The Ski Resort" to read about properly dressing and caring for your family at high altitude.

Otters  ...  Children ages three and four are Otters.  Otters must be potty-trained.  The nursery is available for care of children who are not yet ready to be an Otter.  Otters who learn to stop and make turns will take skiing adventures with other Otters of the same ability level.  Otters who are still learning to turn and stop will alternate between playing ski games on the Magic Carpet, playing inside, and resting.  All Otters will spend part of their day resting and drinking hot chocolate.

(Some young children find the very beginning of their Ski School experience to be overwhelming and they cry when their parents say goodbye.  It doesn't mean they will keep crying.  The best thing to do is to give a hug and get out of sight.  Most children stop crying as soon as their parents leave.  If your child isn't having fun, Ski School will call you and ask if you want to try on another day.)

Bears  ...  Five and six year olds are Bears.  Bears are grouped by ability level and can range from first timers to black skiers.  Your child will be grouped with other five and six year olds of a similar ability.  Instructors provide safe boundaries for their classes while teaching them skiing skills and having a ton of fun.

Eagles  ...  Seven to fourteen year olds are considered Eagles.  Eagles are grouped by ability level and can range from first time to double black skiers.  Age will inevitably affect ability level, thus making it rare that seven and fourteen year olds will ski together very often.  Classes are based on students' ability levels and desires, with some classes being leisurely and others getting in as many adventures as they can while the lifts are open.

Snowboarders  ...  Children ages seven through fourteen may participate in children's snowboard lessons.  Most children younger than age seven lack the upper/lower body separation and coordination to learn snowboarding very easily.  Snowboarders will be grouped by ability level, ranging from first time riders to experts.  Class structure is based on students' wishes and skills.  Some classes will ride at a chill, laid back pace with others hitting the trees and the park as many times as they can.

To book your children's group lesson, go to http://www.tellurideskiresort.com/ or call (970) 728-7414.  If your family or group is coming with several children, you might want to consider a private lesson.  The cost value of one private lesson (which allows up to six students from your family or group) greatly increases when compared against the cost of four or five group lessons.  To learn more about private lessons, go to the tab of that name under The Ski Resort/lessons.
